Not all playgrounds are created equal. We spent three months visiting over 20 parks across Wellington, armed with two children and one very strong coffee.
#1 Frank Kitts Park
The nautical-themed playground at Frank Kitts is hard to beat. It has equipment for all age groups, is fenced, has toilets nearby, and the harbour backdrop is genuinely stunning. The only downside: it gets very busy on weekends.
“A great playground isn't just about equipment. It's about space, safety, and somewhere for parents to actually sit.”
#2 Zealandia Surrounds, Karori
The playground adjacent to Zealandia is a hidden gem. It's quieter than city playgrounds, surrounded by native bush, and you can combine it with a visit to the sanctuary itself for a full day out.
